Fall Has Arrived

Why is Halloween being celebrated for a week this year, instead of just one day?  I feel like I missed the memo or something, but we've got oodles of Halloween/fall parties going on this weekend.  Not complaining (especially since fall doesn't come naturally here - no leaves changing, no cool weather!), just feeling out of the loop of party life!

Tonight was the first annual Fall Festival in our neighborhood, held at the local Golf and Country Club's country club. As I'm not one to pass up a pumpkin patch, bounce houses, hayride, food, and more I took the kids tonight.  What a perfect way to kick off Halloween/fall event "season"!

The event cost a $10 donation per adult and was free for the kids.  The donation goes to a foundation founded in honor of a little girl who passed away on Christmas Day 2009 (my heart aches so much for her family).  The funds raised help a local NICU ... so donating $10 was well worth it, for more than just the cookie painting and hayride.

We had a great time, River got a kick out of the horses and the other kids loved the bounce house and inflatable slide. The turnout for the event was incredible, what an awesome sense of community we felt!  And the country club couldn't have done a better job ... really, it was just right. Finishing the event decorating sugar cookies with pounds of frosting, marshmallows, and candy wasn't too shabby either.
