1 Non Blonde

haircut and new color haircut and new color

Sunday it was blonde, today it's not. After a few years of being a blonde, and loving it, I've decided to go back to my natural color.

Personally, I prefered the blonde. I knew I would ... never once did I regret having blonde hair. I loved it.

But ... after reading this book and this one Jason and I have made a commitment to become debt free. We've been pinching pennies on gas, groceries, cleaning supplies, etc., and spending a big chunk of cash on my hair ever 2-3 months just doesn't make sense. I mean really, why work to save less than $1.00 on noodles and then spend $150 on haircolor? So the haircoloring had to go (and I've tried and failed at doing it myself, so that's not an option).

I told my hairdresser that the first thing I'm doing when we pay off our last debt is calling her to get the blonde back!

And how is the whole getting out of debt thing going? Really well. We've got a long way to go but once we sat down with our budget and came up with a tough plan (like $125 a week for food ... groceries and eating out ... we're not eating out much!), we started seeing that there might actually be a light at the end of the tunnel and I know we'll get there. Some of it really sucks, like my hair and not being able to go out to eat much at all, but even those things have silver linings when we look hard enough. We've already paid off much more than we expected to by now.

And now for something completely unrelated here are a few pictures of A. and K. climbing in a gigantic tree this afternoon. It looks sort of like a banyan tree, but I don't think it is because the roots aren't hanging down as a banyan's roots would, but then all the knots may be from cutting the roots. Sounds like a home school project to me. A. is in the first picture, in a white t-shirt just above the roots on the right hand side, both boys are in the other two pictures.

  1. So pretty!
When another one of my friend's decided to go "non-blonde", her husband said it was like getting a whole new wife! Hubba hubba! ;)

  2. Oh I SO understand the longing for blonde. I was super-blond, just like when I was a little girl, last summer and I felt prettier than I had in many a year. But the price tag, ugh! I just couldn't justify it, so I went back to boring old normal. *sigh*

I think you are beautiful either way, however. And much power to you as you seek debt-freedom!

  3. Oh, and if I had to hazard a guess I'd say that is definitely a regularly-pruned banyan. Gorgeous!

  4. the dark hair makes you look younger, rather than someone trying to look younger. There's lots of fun to be had as a brunette: caramel, copper, auburn, chocolate. And it is not as damaging to your hair.

  5. It looks like a Moreton Bay Fig but I don't know what an Australian native tree is doing in Florida!

  6. I rarely comment on blogs but I want to let you know that your hair is very pretty dark. The cut truly flatters your face and features.

  7. oooh no no no ...I've been mostly-lurking around admiring your quilts but I have to come out of my mostly-lurking closet and say you hair is SO PRETTY non-blonde and you look SO MUCH younger (if that is something that causes you a moments thought!) - gorgeous...young, quirky, interesting...the blonde was pretty but a bit, i dunno, predicatable...(from someone who also recently rediscovered her natural haircolour and LOVES it!)...right, back to mostly-lurking and quilts...

  8. Wait, so the dark color in the pictures is your natural color?! I think it looks awesome! And I hear you on the penny-pinching. Sometimes it just doesn't seem like there just isn't any more to cut (no pun intended)!

  9. I think that was a wise decision. It really does look nice the way it is, plus think of all the extra time you'll have!

  10. Good luck!

I've been giving up lots of things for the greater good (paying down our debt) and it is worth it!
