A Little Sewing for the Babe

2 bibs for the babeFinally! Some things for the baby. No huge rush, he shouldn't be making his grand appearance for another three months ... but it is time to start spoiling him, I think.

I got the urge to make him a little pair of hippo pants but am not confident drafting my own pattern ... or happy paying $6 for a pattern ... so those are on hold until I come up with a plan, or find patterns on sale for $1 or so.

The pants urge was quickly, and amazingly easily, replaced by a desire to make him some bibs, burp pads, and a onesie and here they are! onesie and burp cloth for the babe

The fabric is from Ikea. These hippos are awesome, I can't help but smile when I look at them. I may have to make him another set out of the green hippos.

I think I'm going to go ahead and make him some larger bibs too, adapting the pattern a bit - I'm thinking perhaps two inches wider and two inches longer. I constantly have people tell me that they can't find cute bigger bibs, which is what they really need when the child is eating. If I'm happy with them I'll add some to my shop.

    B. You can deconstruct a pair of pants that have a fit that you like & use them to make a pattern.

  8. So adorable. I love that IKEA fabric. Do you really, truly, let the babes blurp all over those lovely bibs? I would never be able to do it. I would frame them. LOL!

  9. My favorite easy pants for babies are flat pants. I use the tutorial at the very bottom of this page: http://home.pacbell.net/kapleo/blog/domesticspherepatterns.html. I think they're great for using those adorable prints that other people always seem to find at Ikea. I didn't have a chance to look at fabric at all the one time I went. I didn't even know they had fabric. I think it's coming time for another trip to Atlanta.
BTW- your bibs are so cute! That is going to be one stylin' baby!

    Blessings!
