For George

trees and birds quilt

My dear friend George has a new grandniece who needs a quilt. Of course I'm happy to make one for her!

George and I have known each other for about 14 years. He worked with me long ago and we argued all the time ... and we still do. He is a sailor and the reason my kids got started sailing, he enrolled C. in her first class, and has supported all the kids as they grow in the sport. George has also been extremely helpful to me over the last few months and has been very loyal and supportive. He's family, and I'm so glad to have him.

So George has a new grandniece and he asked me to make her a quilt.

The inspiration for this quilt was actually the backing fabric. The map is really cute and sweet. I used those colors for the strips on the front and then appliqued trees made from minky with brown polka-dot trunks and branches, mimicing the tree fabric on the frontside. The birds are stitched on ... three of them because the new family has three people in it ... Mommy, Daddy, and baby.

The map fabric is very cool. You'd think it'd be neat to use for a boy, huh? Well ...

Look at the names of the places! Sparkle, Fairy, Glitter, etc. No, not for a boy!

Enjoy.
